You are invited to the 2nd Annual Cordial Eye Ball!
You are invited to the Cordial Eye Ball! Join us on Saturday, 11/2, from 5-8pm, for our annual gala. Honoring the celebration of Dia de Muertos, this will be an artful evening of music, food, and community. All proceeds will support The Cordial Eye’s programming for artists and community learners. We invite you to come dressed in something colorful and festive that reflects this joyful holiday.
Tickets: $50
This year’s Ball will feature Wish You Were Here, an art installation exhibiting the work of local artists who have passed on, honoring their legacies, holding space for all they aren’t here to do, and envisioning a future for Cape Cod that supports long and healthy lives for the whole community. Would you like to honor a loved one who has passed on? Consider making a donation in their honor to contribute to our postcard-inspired community ofrenda.
An ofrenda is a home altar, often decorated with photos, flowers, and other significant familial symbols, to honor those who have died. For a donation of $35, we will create a piece of postcard art honoring your loved one, which will be installed in our community ofrenda for the month of November. After you donate, we will reach out to gather some information about your person (their name, your message to them, an optional photo!).
Some information on Dia de Muertos:
Dia de Muertos is a holiday deeply rooted in Mexican culture, spanning back to the days of the indigenous Aztec empire, and currently celebrated all over the world, by people of many ethnicities and religious traditions, but especially throughout South and Central America.
Dia de Muertos is NOT Mexican Halloween. Although the two holidays are in close date proximity, Dia de Muertos is a distinct celebration. It is not culturally appropriate to dress up in the traditional dress/make-up of Dia de Muertos as a Halloween costume.
Dia de Muertos is a joyful celebration. This holiday is a loving commemoration of those who have passed, as well as a reminder that life and death can happily coexist. We hold space for the many ways that different people and cultures think about mortality and look forward to amplifying and taking part in this one.
