Creative Futures Cape Cod

We were so moved to work with our first cohort of Creative Futures Fellows during the spring of 2023. Cassandra Starling, Craig Florence, Jamie Roballo, Filipe de Olivieras Borges, Tish Vargas, Elton Rose Kennedy, and Natasha Walton studied, practiced, and creatied alongside each other for twelve weeks in a vacant office space turned artist studio in downtown Hyannis. We are thankful to their artist mentors, and to our partners Belonging Books, Amplify POC Cape Cod, Love Live Local, and EforAll Cape Cod who deepened their practice and strengthened their connections to community.

Creative Futures Cape Cod (CFCC) is a 12-week paid fellowship for adults in Hyannis and the surrounding communities, between the ages of 18-40, who desire a career in the creative economy. Open to musicians and visual artists of all genres, CFCC pairs each fellow with a local arts professional for weekly individual mentorship, hosts weekly cohort classes, provides free studio space, and compensates each intern $3600 and assistance with purchasing materials for their participation in the program. CFCC is a program of The Cordial Eye and includes collaboration from Amplify POC, Belonging Books, EforAll Cape Cod, and Love Live Local. Participants can expect to gain knowledge and experience in their chosen art form, to learn about the role of an artist in community, to learn entrepreneurship and branding basics, and to build community with other creative professionals on Cape Cod.

Grow into Art

Grow into Art is a similar program for teens that is now in its third summer. We know that Cape Cod teens are skilled, introspective, and culturally aware creatives, and we want to create the support system that they need to develop their lives and skills as artists here. Grow into Art is a paid mentorship program for Cape Cod artists ages 14-18 (open to current high schoolers, recent grads, dropouts, and GED students of all sorts) who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts through mentorship, weekly cohort meetings, and a final showcase.

Grow into Art Interns work closely with an artist-mentor each week to create a work of art (visual or musical) for a student showcase, learn professional practice tips about running an arts business, and practice networking. This program also includes weekly group sessions for all participants, in which interns will work together on their showcase and learn about the role of the arts in communities. This year the program will last from July 10th to August 18th 2023, a total of 6 weeks, and will culminate in a student showcase.
